Solar Driven Trigeneration UTS

Technical

Project description:

This project was undertaken for the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and consists in a unique tri-generation system that provides chilled water, hot water, and electricity to their new Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) building. The project is a combined solar PV, concentrating solar power and wind power renewable energy system with thermal and electrical storage on a minigrid that demonstrates that a high penetration renewables is possible. It produces electricity, chilled water and hot water for the building and has given the university a tool to inspire the next generation of experts.

Conceptual phase to finish

The system was designed and delivered by NEP Solar in partnership with SOLEM Consulting, and EnergyAE.

Award winning

The project was awarded the AIRAH Dennis Joseph Award for innovative Use of Solar Energy in HVAC&R in 2014.

This project has been featured in The Official Journal of AIRAH in August 2015 (Volume 14.7), read the journal here.

The scientific system description of this project has been published and is available here:
