Clean Energy Regulator Releases Version 54 of the Solar Water Heater Register
On April 16, 2025, the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) released Version 54 of the Register of Solar Water Heaters. This register lists solar water heaters and air source heat pump models eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
Understanding STCs and Their Value
STCs are tradeable certificates that provide financial incentives for installing eligible renewable energy systems. The number of STCs a system can earn depends on factors like system performance, installation location, and the installation date which affects the 'deeming period'. STC values on the register are for a deeming period of 10 years. To calculate STCs for a system installed in 2025, which has 6-year deeming period, multiply by a factor of 0.6 and round down to the nearest integer. 2026 deeming period will be 5 years (multiply by 0.5).
For example, a heat pump water heater installed in 2025 may show 36 STC on the register for zone 4 (Melbourne). This system will yield 36*0.6=21.6, rounded down to 21 STC.
For the current STC price of $39.90 (as of 22/4/25), this equates to a rebate of $837.90. Refer to Demand Manager for latest certificates prices.
Top Performing Products
There have been some very highly efficient products added to the Register this round. Leading the pack, Nu Energy’s NuE60A-300V secures 37 STCs in Zone 4 (10-year value). Several other models from AGM Energy, Ecogenica, Odis, Econova, Reclaim Energy, and GOMON follow closely, each achieving 36 STCs in the same zone—reflecting strong performance and optimized system design.
