Our expertise and services
EnergyAE has been dedicated to the AU/NZ solar and heat pump water heater industry for over 10 years, from R&D and testing guidance to AS/NZS 4234 modelling and incentive scheme approvals. We work directly with test labs, certification bodies, manufacturers and regulators.
Research & Development
We work with manufacturers to optimise heat pump design for higher efficiency, better test results, and stronger certificate returns.
Learn more →Modelling & Simulation
AS/NZS 4234 and TRNSYS simulation for heat pumps, solar thermal, PV systems, and batteries. The foundation of every incentive scheme registration and compliance submission.
Learn more →Incentive Schemes
End-to-end support for Australian energy efficiency incentive schemes (SRES, VEU, ESS): testing, AS/NZS 4234 modelling, certification and regulator submissions.
Learn more →NZ Compliance
Guidance for Australian-certified HPWH manufacturers entering the New Zealand market: electrical safety (SDoC), Building Code G12, E3/EECA, and refrigerant obligations.
Learn more →TRNSYS Software
EnergyAE is the exclusive Australian distributor of TRNSYS software. We provide sales, remote training, online courses, and create custom TRNSYS models.
Learn more →Policy Direction
We've contributed to the development of VEU, ESS, and SRES scheme rules, giving EnergyAE unique insight into how regulators think and what they require.
Learn more →Incentive schemes pay for a large share of a commercial heat pump
In Victoria (VEU Activity 44) and NSW (ESS Schedule F), a commercial heat pump water heater earns deemed certificates worth tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars per installation, particularly when it replaces electric resistance heating.
EnergyAE has modelled 150+ commercial systems. We handle testing support, TRNSYS modelling, VEU pre-registration and ESS lodgement end to end. Use our estimation tool to see how many certificates your systems could be eligible for.
Typical VEECs (VIC), replacing electric
| Capacity | Median VEECs | ≈ value |
|---|---|---|
| 30–75 kW | 335 | ~$28k |
| 75–150 kW | 937 | ~$80k |
| 150–300 kW | 2,076 | ~$176k |
| 300 kW+ | 3,966 | ~$337k |
At $85/VEEC. Based on 150+ systems modelled by EnergyAE. NSW ESS typically yields higher counts. Estimates only. Registered values require AS/NZS 4234 TRNSYS modelling.
A real person behind the modelling
I'm Alastair McDowell. I'm passionate about the heat pump water heater industry: we have the technology to make water heating 3x more efficient, and now it's about deployment. My goal is to help HPWH manufacturers develop great products, achieve full compliance, register for incentives, and access the market smoothly.
I've been doing this for over 11 years. In that time I helped develop the VEU Activity 44 and ESS large commercial heat pump methodologies, and my team and I have completed AS/NZS 4234 modelling for 650+ registered products, working alongside test labs, certifiers, and regulators. If you need any help, reach out: my team and I look forward to working with you.
