TRNSYS Software

TRNSYS 15 at present. The templates currently published for residential heat pump water heaters are TRNSYS 15 decks, so a TRNSYS 15 installation is what runs them. That is set to move to TRNSYS 18.

The licence we sell covers both versions, so a purchase now runs today's templates and the TRNSYS 18 versions when the change takes effect. There is no second licence to buy. Which version the schemes require is set by the regulator and the scheme administrators, so that change happens on their timing rather than ours.

You also need TRNAUS, the Australian component library that supplies the component types the scheme templates call. TRNAUS is not an EnergyAE product and we take no margin on it. Contact Graham Morrison at t_design@tpg.com.au for a quote.

Nothing else is required: no TESS extension library is needed to run the scheme heat pump water heater templates.

Yes. TRNSYS 15 and 18 together with TRNAUS will run the CER, VEU and ESS heat pump water heater templates as published.

The TRNSYS licence is priced per user, in tiers of 1, 5 and 10, with separate rates for a new licence and for an upgrade from TRNSYS 17. Current figures, along with the full TESS library price list, are on the purchase page, where you can build a cart and request a formal quote. Prices are AUD excluding GST.

Budget for TRNAUS on top of that, quoted separately by Graham Morrison as above. No TESS library is needed for scheme heat pump water heater work.

The Clean Energy Regulator publishes them on its manufacturers and importers page, together with the registration requirements that go with them. Download the current template from there rather than reusing a copy from an earlier job, because a superseded template is one of the more common causes of a rejected submission.

Installation, licence support and software faults are covered at no extra cost, by email, phone and Microsoft Teams. Support on your own models, decks or projects is charged at $250 per hour as you use it.

The licence is issued with no expiry date. There is no subscription, no annual fee and nothing to renew. For completeness, the licence file itself carries a technical end date of 18 May 2044, which is the maximum the licence generator supports.

A future major version, in the way TRNSYS 18 followed TRNSYS 17, is priced as an upgrade rather than included. Because the term does not affect the price, a fixed five year or ten year licence would cost the same as the perpetual one, so we do not offer one.

Minor TRNSYS 18 updates are included, and you download them yourself from the registered user page using the credentials in the installation instructions we send you. A future major version is a separate upgrade purchase.

Commercial licences come in packages of 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 users. Educational licences come in packages of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 or 70 users. The number you buy is the number of users who may use the software at any one time.

Node locked is the default. Each activation ties one seat to one machine, which suits individual workstations and a fixed computer lab. A seat is released again from within the Simulation Studio, so replacing a machine does not consume a licence permanently.

Network, also called floating, serves the licence from a central licence server to any machine that can reach it, which suits shared or virtual desktop environments. It needs a permanent internet connection while the software is in use.

The two systems cannot be combined within a single licence, because the software's licence agreement does not permit it. An organisation that needs both takes two licences, one of each type, and we set them up as separate entries. Tell us how the software will actually be delivered to your users and we will get this right at the start.

No. A TRNSYS licence may not be shared between separate organisations, branches or departments. That restriction is set by the software's own licence agreement, is set out in the license.txt file distributed with TRNSYS, and extends to different departments of the same university. A second department, branch or related entity takes its own licence.

Within the licensed department or office there is no restriction on which staff or students use the software, only on how many installations are active at one time. Staff and student turnover is not a problem.

The software's licence agreement limits educational licences to educational and research purposes at degree-granting institutions. A government agency, or a non-profit organisation that does not grant degrees, does not qualify on that definition and takes a commercial licence whatever its research purpose.

The licence holder is the specific department or research group named on it, and all users must be affiliated with that licence holder. We confirm academic status before finalising a quote. If your department also does commercial project work for paying third parties, tell us and we will quote the right combination.

Two to five working days from payment is typical. Delivery is electronic, so there is nothing shipped and no Incoterm applies. We issue your TRNSYS 18 licence file and your licence entry directly; the TRNSYS 15 licence file is requested from the software's technical support, which is a third party turnaround.

Yes. The licence is issued to the organisation that will actually run the software, in that organisation's name and under its own activation username, whoever is invoiced. Educational pricing follows the end user, so an academic end user receives academic rates through a commercial purchaser.
