The Siddons Solarstream 165SMBD is a split-system heat pump water heater: an outdoor R417A heat pump unit connected by pre-charged refrigerant lines to a 165 L glass/enamel-lined storage tank. The condenser coil wraps around the outside of the tank (a patented design) rather than sitting inside it, so there is no direct water contact with the refrigerant circuit. The heat pump draws a maximum 1.38 kW electrical load and operates across the full -5 to 45 degrees C ambient range typical of the Solarstream range, with a factory-default tank thermostat set point of 57 degrees C (adjustable 50 to 65 degrees C).
The 165SMBD shares its heat pump platform, controller and tank design with the 261, 326 and 417 litre models in the same range, and with the R290-charged 165SMCD variant of the same tank size. No electric backup element is fitted or required.
Warranty is 5 years on the storage tank, 4 years on the compressor, 2 years on other heat pump parts, and 1 year on labour, per the service manual current at the time of writing.
