2. Testing and Certification
Testing and certification requirements before residential SWH modelling and scheme applications.
Phase 2 confirms that the project has a credible testing and certification pathway for AS/NZS 4234 modelling, AS/NZS 2712 certification, and scheme applications.
Residential SWH projects usually require evidence across potable water, electrical safety, collector performance, tank heat loss, annual simulation, and certification. EnergyAE completes the AS/NZS 4234 modelling, but the client, test lab, and certification body usually provide the other evidence.
In this section
- Potable Water and Plumbing
- Electrical Safety
- Collector Performance (AS/NZS 2535.1)
- Tank Heat Loss (AS/NZS 4692)
- AS/NZS 4234
- Certification
Phase sub-tasks
- Confirm what testing has already been completed.
- Confirm the lab and certification body for any testing/certification still underway.
- Sanity-check collector performance (AS/NZS 2535.1) and tank heat loss (AS/NZS 4692) reports before modelling.
- Confirm AS/NZS 2712, Electrical Certification & EESS registration status.
- Record missing evidence in the project checklist and client follow-up list.
Testing overview
| Test | Standard | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Potable water | AS 3498, AS 4020 | Confirms materials and potable water safety evidence for certification and scheme files |
| Electrical safety | AS/NZS 60335 series, CISPR, IEC 61000 series | Confirms electrical safety and EMC evidence |
| Collector performance | AS/NZS 2535.1 or EN 12975 | Supports solar collector efficiency inputs for AS/NZS 4234 modelling |
| Tank heat loss | AS/NZS 4692.1 Appendix C | Supports tank heat loss inputs and certification |
| Annual simulation | AS/NZS 4234 | Calculates annual energy performance and certificate values |
| Certification | AS/NZS 2712, EESS | Supports product certification and scheme eligibility |

Exit gate
Phase 2 exits when required test reports and certification evidence are received or tracked with clear owners, due dates, and project risk notes.
The next phase is Phase 3 - Documentation Review.
