Residential SWH Documentation
Overview of documents required to model & register a solar water heater.
For solar water heaters (flat-plate, evacuated tube, thermosiphon), the following documentation is required, as applicable to the system.
Test reports:
- Collector efficiency: AS/NZS 2535.1 or EN 12975 Performance Report.
- Tank Heat Loss: AS/NZS 4692.1 test report or >700L calculation report.
- Gas Booster Performance (for gas-boosted systems): AS/NZS 4552.
- Pump Test Report or Hydraulic Analysis: Determining pump flow rate and power consumption specific to collector array size or boost plant.
- AS/NZS 2712 Appendix F No-load system operation test. One test may cover a family of systems (see AS/NZS 2712 App. F3).
Technical details:
- System Schematic including:
- Collector model and number of collectors.
- Storage tank model and number of tanks.
- Solar pipework dimensions.
- Pump model(s) and positions in the system.
- Heat exchanger(s) and position in the system.
- Tank Drawings: Show height/volume above all fittings, elements, and sensors.
- Heat Exchanger Specifications: HX length, inner diameter, tube thickness, conductivity.
- Electric Booster: Capacity (kW) and thermostat settings (Set point and dead-band, e.g., 60°C and 8°C).
- Control Logic Specifications: pump differential temperature settings, frosting settings, maximum tank temperature settings.
- Flow Rate Specifications: and demonstration of flow rate control, such as via a flow meter or flow rate controller (may be demonstrated by the installation manual).
- Pipework Insulation Specifications: Thickness and thermal conductivity (as specified by the installation manual).
The Following Items Can be Provided by EnergyAE If Unavailable:
- Tank Heat Loss Calculation: For tanks >700L volume if test reports are not available.
- Hydraulic Analysis: of pump flow rate and power consumption if a pump test report is not available for a specific collector array.
- System Schematics.
- Improvements to Tank Drawing/System Schematics: In order to meet CER requirements.
Naming Conventions for Solar Water Heaters:
- BrandName_VEU_Submission
- ModelNo1
- BrandName_ModelNo_TRNSYS_Decks
- BrandName_ModelNo_ESC_Z.dck*
- BrandName_ModelNo_ESC_Z.lst*
- BrandName_ModelNo_ESC_Z.out*
