Commercial Pre-test Advisory

Client advisory before EN 14511 testing begins.

When to use

Send before EN 14511 testing starts, especially where the client or lab is still deciding test conditions. This protects certificate outcomes and avoids avoidable retesting.

Subject

[{AExxx}] {Client} - Pre-test Advisory for EN 14511 Testing

Template

Hi {ClientName},

Before EN 14511 testing begins, we recommend confirming a few items with the test lab so the results are useful for VEU Activity 44 and ESS IHEAB modelling.

EN 14511 testing produces the performance map used in the AS/NZS 4234 annual simulation. The selected test points can materially affect the modelled COP and certificate quantities.

Read our full guide about EN 14511 here.

Our main recommendations are:

  1. Maximum inlet water temperature

The highest inlet water temperature should reflect the highest inlet temperature the heat pump would actually see in normal operation. For example, if the tank setpoint is 65 deg C and the heat pump runs at a 5 K delta T, the maximum inlet temperature is normally 60 deg C, not 65 deg C.

  1. Additional warm ambient point

Where possible, add a higher dry-bulb ambient test point, such as 38 deg C. Commercial systems usually perform better at warmer ambient conditions, and this can improve the modelled annual performance. Labs will not always include this point unless it is specifically requested.

  1. AS/NZS 2712 applies per individual tank below 700 L

If any individual tank is below 700 L, that tank requires AS/NZS 2712 coverage. The threshold is not based on combined system volume.

  1. AS/NZS 4692 applies to each tank model at or below 700 L

Each tank model at or below 700 L needs AS/NZS 4692.1 heat loss evidence. If multiple tank variants share the same heat loss characteristics, we may need an equivalence declaration.

  1. Please copy EnergyAE on technical lab communications

Please copy us on test-condition, scheduling, results, and lab RFI emails. If you prefer to manage the lab relationship directly, please forward all technical exchanges to us within 2 business days.

Happy to walk through the test matrix on a 30-minute call before testing starts.

Kind regards,

Notes / placeholders

  • Use this alongside the formal testing guidance in the KMS.
  • Adapt the temperature examples to match the client system.
  • If the lab has already quoted test points, add a short paragraph confirming which points should change.
